Characters

Leon Ortiz
Leon is a young police officer from Tucson who has transferred to San Miguel. He is courageous and resourceful unless confronted with his greatest fear – Chihuahuas! If the other survivors are lucky, he may be able to overcome his fear in time to save the day . . . at which point, his bumbling nature will probably only lead them into greater danger.

Samantha Branch
Samantha is a gritty, tough-as-nails police officer from Palo Verde. She has been sent by her department to investigate a distress call from San Miguel. When Leon proves mostly useless against the Chihuahua threat, she does her best to get the survivors out alive while at the same time determining how the Chihuahuas became so dangerous. In the company of panic and mayhem, she is a calming – if somewhat bitchy – voice of reason.

Johnny Tanner
The denim-clad, fun-loving redneck is one of the last survivors of San Miguel. Despite the friends he has lost so far, he enjoys the exhilaration of fighting to the death with the bloodthirsty Chihuahuas. He takes pride in his mullet and in his knack for humiliating Leon in front of Samantha. He may know more than he’s letting on, and if he can remember what that is he just might tell them.

Erica Bates
The teenage waitress is the only survivor of a restaurant that was overrun by the Chihuahuas. She is accompanied everywhere by her faithful part-Chihuahua, part-Pekingese dog, Cocoa, who growls whenever another dog is near. She doesn’t know (or care) what’s happened, she just wants to get out alive and spend the smallest amount of time possible listening to Johnny.

Mayor Sanchez
Mayor Sanchez is a very entrepreneurial person who has quickly become the political head of town. His moneymaking schemes have always confused the simple citizens of his town. He’s gotten his wish to have his town put on the map, though not exactly in the way he’d hoped for.

Dr. Packer
A mysterious government agent, Dr. Packer is at Mayor Sanchez’s house to investigate soil readings that has been sent in by farmers from San Miguel. The fact that his appearance coincides with the Chihuahuas’ takeover does not go unnoticed by the rest of the survivors. Could he know the secret behind what’s made the Chihuahuas almost unstoppable?

Dale
A friend of Johnny’s who has managed to hold off the Chihuahuas in his mobile home along with his wife, Bobbi Jo. He is confident in his ability to survive by himself, and views the police presence of Samantha and Leon with suspicion.

Bobbi Jo
Dale’s wife. She is glad to see that Erica survived but is less than thrilled with Johnny’s presence in her house (although his long history of peeping in her windows may have something to do with that as well). She is protective of her authority in her own home while Samantha is around, though she may be forced to give in should the Chihuahuas make their way into her own . . .
